Tim French honoured

HHDBA is delighted to congratulate Tim French of the French Group and Its Magic on his appointment as MBE in the New Year’s Honours.

Tim’s been honoured for his widespread work in the community. Besides still successfully running his shop fitting business after 40 years, Tim is probably best known for the It’s Magic Events which runs the successful music events in Victoria Park and the Broadway each year; these bring stars like Katherine Jenkins and Blake to the town but also promote local musicians.

His voluntary work dates back to the early 60s when he worked as a youth leader at both the Albermarle Youth Centre and the Wivelsfield Youth Club. He also coached junior athletics and was a founder member of Haywards Heath Harriers with British decathlon winner Daley Thompson among his protégés.

Tim, who is an active member and former president of Haywards Heath Rotary Club, also served for more than 20 years on the Mid Sussex Magistrates’ bench.

Lyndsey Ratcliffe (dispute resolution), Daniel James (commercial/aviation) and Debbie Venn (information technology) were also ranked for the first time as ‘associates to watch’ thanks to the positive feedback the Chambers' researchers received from their clients and contacts www.asb-law.com.

Snow and Ice

HHDBA was represented at the emergency planning meeting organised by the District Council to review performance during the recent ‘snow event’. The Council’s accept they were slow off the mark before Christmas but the January performance was better. Lessons have been learnt and HHDBA will be liaising with all the Councils so we have a clear understanding of what can and can’t be done, how we can contribute to prioritising key areas, and to ensure we have a clear understanding of potential liability concerns.

Parking

A meeting with the MSDC Cabinet member responsible for parking to discuss future strategy had to be postponed at the beginning of January and we will be rearranging this shortly.

MSDC Economic Development Strategy

Together with the associations from East Grinstead and Burgess Hill, HHDBA made a submission in response to the Council’s consultation on their economic development strategy. The Council is considering the responses before concluding its proposals.

Meeting the MSDC Leadership

We will be meeting the new leader of the Council on 11th February when we will be seeking clarification on the future of the Town Centre regeneration partnership with Thornfields or their successors.

Retail and Town Centre Group

The Christmas promotion was a success although a few issues did emerge which will be taken on board for this year. A programme of promotions is being planned for the remainder of the year. An open meeting for retailers will be held in the next few weeks.
